Cantamaths Merit 4

In Week 4 of Cantamaths, we had 2011 Year 7 Questions, so it was a little easier than Week 3 but still challenging. Some questions were like "If ... went 5 metres south and 2 metres west, then went 13 metres south again, how many kilometres would ... have walked?" I ended up getting 8/20 since they were kinda challenging obviously. I think I used Active Thinking because some of them were very confusing and complex.

Must Do Merit 3

At Technology,  we went to our new pentad textiles/design. We watched a tiny snippet of this show called dragons den and they explained that at the end of the pentad that we had to present our creations like the people did in the show. I think I showed active thinking because we had to thinki of an idea of what we did.

Parliament

Parliament This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship. Three things that I learned are NZ parliament are: The prime minister sits on the 4th seat on the speakers right We use Mixed Member Proportional   National and Labour have accomplice parties Here is the link to my compare and contrast map explaining the difference between democracy and dictatorship.

Deduce the angle properties of intersecting and parallel lines and the angle properties of polygons and apply these properties Modelling Book

WALT: Deduce the angle properties of intersecting and parallel lines and the angle properties of polygons and apply these properties Modelling Book I learnt the angle properties and how to calculate the sum of the interior angles. \ The most challenging thing was trying to memorise all the angle properties.

I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury

In this project I was working with Sasha, Dylan and Emily  and we decided to create a story for kids Here is a link  to what we made. In this project we decided that our success criteria were: (list the criteria you created on slide 7) A good Children’s Story needs... Why is this important? Strong characters who evoke strong emotion So Children get attached to the character. One that contains a simple and original idea presented with clarity and great power. So children can read it easily One that makes the world seem larger and more interesting. So children get attached to the book Make sure the words we use is easy for children to understand So they understand what we are saying Make sure we have pretty pictures So they get interested in the pictures Overall our project met/do not meet this criteria because met the criteria because we tested them on some children and they thought that the pictures were nice, the characters were cute, especially

Koru Games Reflection (Must Do Merit 3)

The activity I did at Koru Games was Touch Rugby, The B Team. Two highlights of the Koru games was the fact that you could bring devices to Koru Games, because it would have been more boring if we couldn't bring them with us and when we tied with Lincoln in Touch. I am proud of our team because overall we scored a lot of tries. Next time I want to try and get a higher place, because we got 11 out of 12 teams.

CARE Progress in Term 3 Week 7

C A R E : My progress so far The CARE award that I am working towards is:  Silver The one area of CARE that I am doing best in is: Bus         because: There are many opportunities to get bus ticks every Tuesday when we go technology. The one area of CARE that I need to work harder in is:  Assembly         because: I have hardly any ticks in that area. To show my leadership qualities I am a role model to others in the CARE values by doing/showing these leadership traits: Integrity, Goal Focused, Trustworthy, Resilient, Active Thinker, Motivational On the CARE SOLO matrix below I am at this SOLO level: Relational   because: I can use them without having to be told to. Prestructural Unistructural Multistructural Relational Extended Abstract I am not aware of the CARE values yet. I know what the CARE values mean. I need help to use them. I can use the CARE values. I need reminding to use them. I can use the CARE values ind

Cantamaths Merit 3

In Week 3 of Cantamaths We had another survey of 2008 Year 8 Questions, which were slightly hard than the Year 7 Questions. As same as always there were very hard questions but there were also very easy questions like "There are 560 students and 26 teachers at our school. We have 2 buses available, one carries 40 people and one carries 28 people. If the buses travel together in convoy, how many trips to the Town Hall will they need to make to get all students and teachers there?" (The answer is 9 by the way). There also was a hard one that asked you how many times the digit 2 appeared in a list from 1 to 300. The  leadership trait that I showed was Goal Focused because the question that asked how many times did digit 2 appear in a list from 1 to 300, I wrote a list of the numbers but I still got the question wrong.

Cantamaths Merit 2

For the week 2 of Cantamaths training we had another hard survey. Some of the questions were super hard like one where it asked how many triangles were in the shape. I ended up getting a score like 4/20. I think I used Goal Focused because it was really hard and I tried to get them all right.

Must Do Merit 2

On Tuesday at technology, at food tech we made potato pile ups which were basically stuffed potato and we also made cheese rolls. The potato pile ups were really easy to make and all you needed to do was microwave the potato, empty the potato and stuff it again, it was really good. Cheese rolls were easy as well but they came out really ugly. The learner quality I used was resilient because when I rolled up the cheese rolls they kept on ripping.

Dylan and Nicholas' Mandarin Numbers

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns

I can recognize and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns In this unit I have been learning about: The parts of speech. The types of nouns. The types of sentences. In this unit, I found identifying different types of sentences challenging. Something new I learnt was the different types of nouns like abstract nouns.

Maths Measurement

WALT: Deduce and use formula to find the perimeter and area of polygons & the volumes of prisms. WALT: Find the area and perimeter of circles and composite shapes & the volumes of prisms and cylinders. My Next Step is to be able to calculate the area and diameter of a circle

My CARE Progress

I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year. I am proud of my progress because.......... I have just gotten my BRONZE and I'm going for my SILVER now. How far away are you from reaching your SILVER ? I am pretty far away from getting it. The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E.......... is COMMUNITY because that was the last area I needed to fill in to get my BRONZE in term 2. To achieve my SILVER award quicker I need to………. focus on COMMUNITY but still try to get ACTIVE THINKING , RESPECT , EXCELLENCE The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is........ be a caring friend and keep my hands to myself. We will review CARE progress again at the end of the term.

Term 2 Te Reo Reflection

Term 2 Te Reo Reflection Unistructural       Multistructural Relational Extended Abstract I can say 1-5 words about celebrations in te Reo Maori.   With help, I can ask and answer several questions about celebrations, using te Reo Maori. I can ask and answer several questions about celebrations, using Te Reo Maori. I can ask and answer a range of questions about celebrations ,using Te Reo Maori. I can teach others these questions and answers. In Te Reo this term I have been learning about using vocabulary around food (Kai) and celebrations (Ngā hākari) Here are some sentences, with english translation in brackets, that I can say confidently. He pai ki a koe ngā/te huarakau?- Do you like fruit? Ae, He pai ki ahau ngā/te huarakau. - I like fruit/the fruits Kaore He pai ki ahau ngā/te āporo - I don’t like apples

I can apply my knowledge of adverbial clauses and connectives to see how ideas are linked in texts.

For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning quite challenging but later really easy because I didn't know what they were and the way it was explained in some videos and websites got me more confused of what they were. In this activity , I had to find out what adverbial clauses and connectives were. Then I had to give them an example of it.

Term 2 Music Arts Rotation

WALT: I can describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place Over the past 7 weeks I have been learning to describe the characteristics of music from songs of a different time and place I can describe these characteristics in a piece of music - Melody, A bunch of notes that are played repetitively, (bits that get stuck in your head) - Harmony, A bunch of notes played together that play a sound - Rhythm, Repeated sounds that change pace and volume throughout the song, - Timbre, What makes the song unique - Form, How the song is put together Here is an example of my learning

WALT: Reason with linear proportions

WALT: Combine simple proportions to work out what parts the whole is made up in a unit We learnt how to calculate percentage increase and decrease. If you want to calculate percentage increase, you have to find the percentage difference between the two numbers you are comparing and divide the difference by the original number and then times it by 100 and convert that decimal into a percentage. For example: What is the percent of decrease of 16 to 14? The way you would solve this is find the difference between the original number and the new one. 16 - 14 = 2. Divide 2 by 16 which equals 0.125. Multiply that by 100 and it equals 12.5%, So its a 12.5% decrease. WALT: Combine proportions to work out what parts are whole is made up of using non multiples of 10. We learnt how to calculate how much the percentage increased or decreased in number. The way I did this was I found the percentage and if it was an increase: added it onto the 100, and if it was a decrease: subtra

Cantamaths Merit 1

In the middle block just before maths, we usually have a problem solving session. If you're in CantaMaths instead of doing problem solving you do some training. We have a survey with some very hard questions like  What is the sum of all the whole number factors of 64? Some questions really confused me. I ended up getting a 14/20 questions but the first time I did it I got 7/20 because the answers have to be EXACT.  The leadership quality I think I used resilient because I didn't know much of the answers to the questions

Must Do Merit 1

On Tuesday at Technology, we had our 3rd rotation at science. We learnt about a thing called a gyro scope and how it can keep standing up when it spins. We also learnt about how air pressure works and so next week, we're going to make water rockets next week so I'm very excited. I think the leadership trait I showed was resilient because I didn't really understand , much of what he was saying.

Peer Mediation Merit 3

Today me and Zainab had peer mediation we walked around but there where no people with problems. The learner disposition I think I used today was resilient because it was very boring and I just kept going.

I have been learning to: use a range of precise vocabulary to communicate meaning (Year ⅞) use all basic punctuation independently and attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses) (Year 7/8) The pieces of my writing that are highlighted green are where I have shown my vocabulary and punctuation goal My Story... A Huge Mystery There once was a boy named Hugh Jmistry, a child prodigy who excelled at solving mysteries but no one hired him because of his age. One day he was finally hired to investigate a secret  organization and the murders linked to the group.
