My Favourite Book Of Term 1

A Game Of Thrones - By George R. R. Martin The story is set in the medieval ages in the fictional continents Westeros and Essos, and told through multiple perspectives in each chapter. One of the perspectives is of the Stark family who are the main family of House Stark, located in the fort Winterfell, the lord Ed Stark is called to be the Kings Hand as the previous one had been slain, which is basically the bodyguard of the king. A member of the Stark family, Jon Snow is taken to a place called the wall, which is a big wall made of ice where they keep all the people that commit minor crimes. The wall is the only place that separates them from the north, where it is infested with dangerous undead beings called white walkers. In Essos which is the continent split from Westeros by the Narrow Sea, a woman called Daenerys, part of House Targaryen, is sold off to a leader of the Dothraki, called Khal Drogo by her brother Viserys in-exchange for some men for his army. The story snowball...

Novel Study Term 1

Term 1 Novel Study This term I have been reading and studying the novel  See Ya Simon by David Hill I found this novel ok because I only really got attached to the characters near the end of the book but the author did a good job concluding the novel, the novel only got interesting halfway through. During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference. Link to Explain Map Link to Inference Map National Standard this covers Year 9/10 Standard I can monitor my understanding as it develops during my reading, and adjust my strategies to address any comprehension problems Eg: If I don’t understand a passage I have read I can re-read it, read-on, use pictures or diagrams, or explore the meaning of some of the voca...

I can take action to improve the water cycle in Canterbury

In this project I was working with Sasha, Dylan and Emily  and we decided to create a story for kids Here is a link  to what we made. In this project we decided that our success criteria were: (list the criteria you created on slide 7) A good Children’s Story needs... Why is this important? Strong characters who evoke strong emotion So Children get attached to the character. One that contains a simple and original idea presented with clarity and great power. So children can read it easily One that makes the world seem larger and more interesting. So children get attached to the book Make sure the words we use is easy for children to understand So they understand what we are saying Make sure we have pretty pictures So they get interested in the pictures Overall our project met/do not meet this criteria because met the criteria because we tested them on some children and they thought that the pictures were nice, the characters were cute, e...

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns

I can recognize and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns In this unit I have been learning about: The parts of speech. The types of nouns. The types of sentences. In this unit, I found identifying different types of sentences challenging. Something new I learnt was the different types of nouns like abstract nouns.

I can apply my knowledge of adverbial clauses and connectives to see how ideas are linked in texts.

For reading I have been learning about adverbial clauses. I have found this learning quite challenging but later really easy because I didn't know what they were and the way it was explained in some videos and websites got me more confused of what they were. In this activity , I had to find out what adverbial clauses and connectives were. Then I had to give them an example of it.

I can describe the structure of a Short Story

Something I have learned about the structure of short stories is they have a problem that may get solved in the end. After reading some short stories two things I will remember when I write my own short story are that they are shorter than novels and that short stories are more descriptive

Evaluating Leaders

Exposition Plan Year ⅞ -  I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes. For my “Evaluating Leaders” research I have been researching about Mother Teresa and Sir Edmund Hillary. During this unit I have had to use a range of strategies to find the information I needed on Google. This includes: Cross-checking Using Advanced Search I have achieved this goal because I cross-checked my new info that I found, making sure its true. My next step is to set a new reading goal.

I can gather, evaluate, analyse and summarise information and ideas across a small range of text

My Evaluation Information Chart We used an evaluation info chart to find different sides of the flag change, whether you wanted or don't want it to change. We read 3 articles ranging from changing the flag to not changing the flag. We use the info from these articles to put on the Evaluation info chart. I think I did pretty well at identifying the ideas and categorization but bad at finding which side was stronger in reason.
