Cantamaths Merit 4

In Week 4 of Cantamaths, we had 2011 Year 7 Questions, so it was a little easier than Week 3 but still challenging. Some questions were like "If ... went 5 metres south and 2 metres west, then went 13 metres south again, how many kilometres would ... have walked?" I ended up getting 8/20 since they were kinda challenging obviously.
I think I used Active Thinking because some of them were very confusing and complex.

Now What: I would take out the black mark on the lower left corner of the board and do another coat on the antenna and the ball.

WALT: Reason with linear proportions

WALT: Combine simple proportions to work out what parts the whole is made up in a unit We learnt how to calculate percentage increase and decrease. If you want to calculate percentage increase, you have to find the percentage difference between the two numbers you are comparing and divide the difference by the original number and then times it by 100 and convert that decimal into a percentage. For example: What is the percent of decrease of 16 to 14? The way you would solve this is find the difference between the original number and the new one. 16 - 14 = 2. Divide 2 by 16 which equals 0.125. Multiply that by 100 and it equals 12.5%, So its a 12.5% decrease. WALT: Combine proportions to work out what parts are whole is made up of using non multiples of 10. We learnt how to calculate how much the percentage increased or decreased in number. The way I did this was I found the percentage and if it was an increase: added it onto the 100, and if it was a decrease: subtra...

Merit Student Leader 2

Student Leader This week for my role, we had a practice with our roles in leadership with the teacher. We did some public speaking exercises, we had one exercise where we all wrote a subject on a piece of paper and ended up having to talk about a random subject that was given to you for 30 seconds. It was very hard and the subject I ended up getting was "Tigers". Although it was very challenging I think I stuck through and stayed resilient and just did it for 30 seconds, (which was way shorter than it seemed). Another exercise was we all got the same poem and read it out aloud in groups of four to the other student leaders. The care value i think I was showing was Excellence because I stayed resilient and kept going even though Public Speaking isn't my strong point.
